Get your hands dirty and discover the journey from soil to plate in Dig In! Gardening & Good Eatin’! This interactive elective introduces students to the fundamentals of gardening, horticulture, and healthy living through hands-on experiences and real-world applications. Students will learn how to plant, grow, and care for a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs while exploring the science behind plant growth, soil health, ecosystems, and sustainable gardening practices. Through active participation in the garden, students will also develop an appreciation for environmental stewardship and the role they play in caring for the natural world. Beyond the garden, students will investigate how food choices impact their health and well-being. The course includes lessons on reading food labels, understanding basic nutrition, and making smart, balanced decisions about what they eat. Students will also explore where food comes from, with an emphasis on local agriculture and seasonal eating. By the end of the course, students will have the skills and confidence to grow their own food, make healthier lifestyle choices, and develop a deeper appreciation for the connection between gardening, nutrition, and everyday life. This class encourages curiosity, responsibility, teamwork, and a lifelong commitment to healthy living.
