MIDDLE SCHOOL
SCIENCE

Grade: 5 | General Science

Prerequisite: None

The students will study primarily from Bring Science Alive! Exploring Science Practices. The 5th-grade science curriculum covers God’s design for Living Things and Ecosystems, Earth Systems, Changes in Matter, and Earth/ Moon/ Stars.

Students will be challenged to apply the concept of using the Scientific Method throughout the year in various laboratory experiments. Group activities, presentations, reading assignments, and hands-on activities give students a broad range of methods to gain knowledge and skills.

Grade: 6 | Earth Science

Prerequisite: None

Earth and Space iScience (McGraw Hill) is the primary textbook for 6th-grade science. The curriculum includes Earth’s Resources, Plate Tectonics, Oceanography, Weather and Climate, and Astronomy. Students learn to read non-fiction through note-taking, summarizing the text, and answering critical thinking questions. From hands-on activities with laboratory experiments and group work to individual work with graphic organizers, learning with the integration of a Biblical worldview is a priority.

Grade: 7 | Life Science

Prerequisite: None

7th Grade Science is a life science class that will explore God’s creation of structures of organisms, systems, and the interdependence of groups of organisms. Students will be encouraged to explore topics with a scientific disposition and mindset. We explore basic concepts of the scientific method and use them thoroughly all year to teach our students how to think through questions so that they understand how to come up with conclusions. This practice will help them with current/future labs while also helping them understand the processes scientists had to go through to reach our current understanding.

Grade: 8 | Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC)

Prerequisite: None

8th Grade Science is a physical science class that will explore structures of matter, basic chemistry/physics, and the effects of these properties on our world. Students will be encouraged to explore topics with a scientific disposition, mindset, and Biblical worldview. We explore basic concepts of the scientific method and use them thoroughly all year to teach our students how to think through questions so that they understand how to come up with conclusions. This practice will help them with current/future labs while also helping them understand the processes scientists had to go through to reach our current understanding.

HONORS SCIENCE

Grade: 7 | Honors Life Science

Co-Enrollment: Required

Students must be cnrolled in Pre-algebra 7

Honors Life Science is a rigorous course that emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving and is recommended for students who have demonstrated an interest in science. The course is interdisciplinary; however, much of the content focuses on life science and technology applications. Participation in outside-of-class scientific research projects is required. Students enrolled in this course should expect extensive outside-of-class preparation.

Grade: 8 | Honors Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC)

Co-Enrollment: Required

Students must be cnrolled in Algebra 1

This Honors IPC course requires students to conduct laboratory investigations at a more advanced level using the scientific method. The students will also engage in critical thinking and problem-solving in beginning chemistry and physics. The Metric system and measurement, including more advanced math computations, will be used throughout the course. Participation in outside-of-class scientific research projects is required. Students enrolled in this course should expect extensive outside-of-class preparation.
