MIDDLE SCHOOL
FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Grade: 7 – 8

Prerequisite: None

French and Spanish 1A and 1B at The Woodlands Methodist School is a high school credit course divided between 7th and 8th grade. With successful completion of French or Spanish 1A and 1B, students will earn transferable high school credit for French/ Spanish 1. They will enter level 2 in 9th grade.

Over the course of two years, students will have time to practice and develop confident speaking and listening skills through interactive and hands-on projects. Students will practice reading and writing while exploring target language cultures and traditions. Classroom activities are centered on simple dialogues and situations that a student might encounter wherever the target language is spoken. In addition to the present tense, the immediate future and simple past will be introduced, allowing students to express themselves in written and oral exchanges on familiar topics and situations. Students will become acquainted with life in target language countries through magazines, videos, films, the internet, and music, gaining practical skills for real-world communication.

Note: The State of Texas requires a minimum of two credits (years) of a foreign language for a standard diploma and three credits for a distinguished diploma. Many private schools require three credits for high school graduation. Students seeking Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate language credit will require 4-5 years of instruction.
